When gloom hangs over markets, Mark Sherwood doesn’t keep his clients in the dark. Indeed, the equine enthusiast, who joined the Swiss firm in 2009, believes an ‘honest approach’ is lacking in the industry as wealth managers shy away from confrontation.

‘They are quite happy to talk to clients when things are going well, but tend to put their heads below the parapets when things are not going so well,’ the director of portfolio management has told Spear’s. The firm, which has seen AuM grow to around £8.5 billion, has been in expansion mode of late, and opened a new branch at 23 King Street in St James’s, and recruiting from the big banks to grow its res-non-dom business.
