Chris Rossbach debuts in this index as a managing partner of J Stern & Co, the Knightsbridge-based private investment office he co-founded with Jérôme Stern, a scion of the banking dynasty.
Rossbach brings more than 18 years’ experience in finance (and an MBA from Harvard) to lead the investment arm of the private office service, offering value to ‘the wider ultra-high-net-worth market’. The duo founded the firm, which looks after a range of global portfolios on behalf of families, private clients, trusts and charities, in 2012 and have known each other for more than a decade. Rossbach adds his intricate knowledge of hedge funds to Stern’s expertise in investment banking.
J Stern & Co also has skin in the game: ‘All of the investments are held by the family, so there is complete alignment,’ explains Rossbach. It is the beauty of co-investment, he adds. ‘We would never put people in an investment if we are not exposed to it.’
Their philosophy continues the 200-year-old history in banking of the Stern family, one regarded as having ‘a near unparalleled experience of intergenerational wealth preservation.’ That’s a fitting description of a family which helped build the Panama Canal and Wellington Arch.
