Born of English parentage to Grace McNeil and Christopher John Jackman, Hugh Jackman acted from a young age, starring in the school production of My Fair Lady.

However it wasn’t until Jackman was completing his BA in Communications at the University of Technology, Sydney in 1991, when he decided to pursue acting as a career.

After obtaining his degree Jackman completed a one year course titled ‘The Journey’ at The Actors’ Centre in Sydney. He turned down a role on the popular Australian soap opera Neighbours to attend the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, graduating in 1994.

1998 saw Jackman play the leading role of Curly in Oklahoma! in London’s West End. The performance earned him an Olivier Award nomination. It was this that led to his fame outside of Australia.
