Spear's Year in Review: Parties

In 2012, the Spear’s team have worked our way through many a bottle of champagne, air-kissed for Great Britain and schmoozed our hearts out at this year’s parties. From Cartier to The Cube there have been some smashing bashes in the past 12 months.

In the dark and dreary months following the festive season there is often hushed talk of ‘detox’. Not here at Spear’s. We got stuck in at the Faberge Big Egg Hunt launch before strutting on over to Fashion week, where Matthew Williamson held a bash at Nobu to celebrate his new collection.

March saw the annual Swarovski Whitechapel Gallery gala with guests including Nadia Swarovski, Mollie Dent-Brocklehurst, Iwona Blazwick OBE, Tracey Emin, Pam Hogg and Ron Arad. The Jumeirah Living Grosvenor House Apartments also opened up with some people dangling from the ceiling acrobatically in very revealing leotards, Perrier-Jouet champagne and a snazzy band.

As we approached the summer, the champagne was even more readily available and everyone had long given up on trying to pretend they were not drinking. The RHS Chelsea Flower Show held a private garden party alongside its usual run of events and G&T’s were merrily splashed over flowers at garden parties all over the country: from the Cartier Queen’s Cup to the quintessentially British Goodwood Festival of Speed the great and good of the Spear’s world were outside making the most of a rather dreary summer.

Laurent Perrier celebrated there bicentenary, Spear’s gathered friends together for a dinner at The Cube by Electrolux and Masterpiece London saw thousands gathering at the Royal Hospital in Chelsea to gaze at art, artifacts and one another.

Oh, and the Queen went on a big boat parade, and some sports people gathered in London to turn Stratford in to one of the busiest parts of the capital while Mayfair lay silent.

Once all that hullaballoo was over, things got seriously arty. Frieze week was back in force and Josh very dutifully went to all of the very best parties and provided the Spear’s team and readers with a diary of the trials of night after night of art and cocktails. It’s a tough job. (Pictured middle: Anish Kapoor at the PAD collectors’ preview party.)

November saw the annual Elton John Grey Goose Winter Ball (pictured top: David Furnish, Elizabeth Hurley, Shane Warne), Arts for India Fundraiser and the Cartier Racing Awards at the Dorchester and as the festive season began The Ivy held One Night Only – the only time Emma Thompson will serve you champagne while Sir Derek Jacobi waited on the remaining tables (pictured above: Griff Rhys Jones, Roger Lloyd Pack, Stefan Booth).

We’re now fully in the swing of Christmas parties and as we steadily work our way towards New Year’s Eve there will be no time to hang up the heels before it all starts again with a faux detox in January. Happy Party Season!
