Priya Dutta is senior tax manager at Mark Davies & Associates, having joined the firm in February. ‘The firm provides the best of both worlds,’ she tells Spear’s. ‘Clients get the personal service of a small firm, but with the technical knowhow of a much larger firm.’
Dutta provides tax advice on domicile, residency, overseas trusts and personal tax, with her work ranging ‘from investing in property in the UK to tax structuring for immigration and emigration, passing wealth down to future generations and succession planning’.
That’s a varied workload, which is testament to hard-won experience at both Big Four and Top Six firms, as well as at a smaller tax consultancy firm. Dutta is already responding to
her non-dom clients by setting up a special Brexit helpdesk to advise clients in anticipation of their leaving the UK.
‘There is a lot of interest from our clients to relocate to places like Malta, Portugal, Italy, or Ireland,’ she says. ‘The government will be under pressure to come up with new ways of attracting HNW individuals to set up businesses and invest in the UK, and we hope there will be some tax incentives.’
Dutta also laments the ‘uncertainty around UK tax regulation’, particularly the delayed enactment of non-dom regulation. ‘It’s really important in this environment that individuals have a trusted tax expert,’ she says, and Dutta is certainly that.
