A few foodie delights for this bank holiday weekend

By Spear's

Why not head outside, smell some herbs, eat some food and generally make merry?

The bank holiday is coming up, and for once the weather is looking like it might behave. So, why not head outside, smell some herbs, eat some food and generally make merry? Here are a few ideas to tempt you in to the sunshine (as if you needed any help) and one thing to pop in your diary for September.

Herb Fest

As part of the Southbank Centre’s ‘Festival of Neighbourhood’ this summer, Company of Cooks have created a little greenhouse full of herbs on the river. Supplying local restaurants and bars, the herby house will have everything from bay and dill to lavender and lemon verbena and herb-inspired menus will be available at the following locations: Southbank Centre Riverside Terrace Café and Bar, Queen Elizabeth Hall Roof Garden, Royal Opera House, The Regent’s Park, Kenwood House, RHS Garden, Wisley. I advise popping along, and getting some herby inspiration before heading home to whip up some recipes of your own.

On until 8 September #Herbfest

Smokey Tails

Yes, this is another pop-up — but it looks perfect for the weekend. An outdoor space tucked away by the river in trendy, if slightly tricky to get to, Hackey Wick, Smokey Tails is a collaboration between several trendy folk, including Detroit DJ Seth Troxler, and brings you frozen cocktails, great music and lots of smoky meat. Sounds wonderful.

Dine Like Bond

Sadly, this does not mean that your husband will turn into Daniel Craig. There’s no reason to be too disappointed however. The Dorchester have teamed up with William Boyd, the author behind the latest outing for 007, to offer a Bond Breakfast.

In Boyd’s book, Bond has breakfast at the Grill and those guests who quote ‘solo’ (the title of the new book) when booking their breakfast will get a copy of the book to read. Their breakfast will also come silver service and once a week one table will be chosen to pay the 1969 price of just under two pounds. Rather good for those who like Bond or eggs and bacon or who are a little nostalgic for the Dorchester of the 1960s. Now, if only they could arrange for Daniel, Pierce or Sean to be your waiter…

restaurants.TDL@dorchestercollection.com. For ‘Breakfast with Bond’, available from 26 September until 30 November 2013, book the English Breakfast priced at £32 and quote ‘SOLO’ to receive a complimentary copy of the book.
