Robert Parker’s must-taste wine tour is stopping in London

When Friday rolls around our thoughts turn to wine (if they hadn’t already turned there midway through Monday). I can’t help you with wine this weekend, you’ll have to fend for yourselves. Next weekend, though, is a different story.

World-renowned wine critic Robert Parker has assembled some of the world’s finest wines and producers for a world tour of rare tastings and wonderful dining experiences and next weekend they just happen to be in London.

The Friday night will see a dinner at The Crypt, which is part of the well-known Bleeding Heart in Farringdon. The evening is hosted by Rhone expert Michel Chapoutier and Ron Laughton from Jasper Hill. These two wine heavyweights will be guiding you through a dinner with matched wines including one from Agly Brothers, a collaboration between Michel and Ron, which is not available in the UK.

If you already have plans on Friday – no fear! A second meal is taking place, this time over lunch at St. John Bread & Wine. You will be able to listen to stories of Chapoutier and Laughton while enjoying – among other things – Fergus Henderson’s divine roast bone marrow with parsley and shallot salad. Sounds rather good to me.

And if you’re just more interested in the wine than the food you can attend a walkabout tasting on Saturday at the Saatchi Gallery instead. Producers include M Chapoutier, Château Pichon Longueville Barton, Champagne Delamotte, Marchesi Antinori, Tenuta San Guido, Taylor’s Port, Hamilton Russell, Dominio de Pingus, Vega Sicilia and many others.

The day includes a series of master classes, the highlight being an extremely rare consumer tasting conducted by Chapoutier with Ron Hill at 4pm on Saturday, exploring the essential respect for terroir that drives both the world-class wines they craft and their decades-long friendship.
