An Italian Adventure along the Grand Canal

For history buffs, Aman Venice is located within a stunning 16th-century Palazzo which sits on the Grand Canal. The building has remained in the same family for generations. Current owner, Count Giberto Arrivabene Valenti Gonzaga, still lives in the building on the top floor with his wife and children. When the count inherited the palazzo, he lived there with 80 staff. Today, the hotel houses 24 suites and move than 70 staff members. However the hotel feels relaxed, calm and never full. The atmosphere of Aman Venice is what truly makes it unique. Steeped in history, yet not flashy or garish in any way, the hotel retains a unique character that guests cannot help but fall in love with.

In 2014, architect Jean Michel Gathy from Denniston Architects restored the property and turned the Neo-Renaissance building into what the Aman Venice is today. Featuring restored Tiepolo frescoes, a trompe-l’oeil staircase that will take your breath away and a rococo ballroom complete with chandeliers and gilted mirrors, Aman Venice is unbelievably beautiful.

The suites are luxurious but subtle. Contemporary furnishings create a comfortable stay, with huge beds and a stunning egg-shaped bath tub. Storage space is impressively large, as is the size of each suite. The bath robes are up there with the best in the world, there is no doubt, and the hotel specially sources these. Not a single detail has been overlooked, including a film on the room’s television about the reservation of the building – which you cannot help but watch. It’s truly fascinating.

Staying true to the property’s heritage, and with a sustainable perspective which the Aman group holds close to its heart, Aman Venice launched Arva – the hotel’s restaurant. A seasonal menu pays tribute to Italian cuisine, with flourishes of extravagance. Seated in the dinning room is a real treat, and a must-do on your trip to Venice.

Take a trip down the Grand Canal on the hotel’s boat, Amanita. It’s a traditional wooden speed boat, and guests can sit back and sip champagne whilst being whisked on a private tour of the gorgeous Venetian canals. As romantic an experience as one can get!
