Sharon Stone net worth

Author: Peter Matthews

Sharon Stone is worth a reported £37 million.

A bookworm and academic student as a child, Sharon Stone’s entry into ‘reel world’ was rather an unexpected one – at least to her family members.

Casual participation in a beauty contest fetched her a Miss Crawford County crown in 1977 that eventually paved the way to a modeling career.

While working as a model in Europe, Stone decided she wanted to give movies a shot. Quitting modeling in early 1980s, she appeared as an extra in the 1980 movie Stardust Memories. Although later roles in TV and film followed, all were relatively modest endeavours.

Stone’s breakthrough role came in 1990 when she acted alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in the sci-fi action movie Total Recall. Produced at a cost of $65m, the movie grossed $261m, thanks in part to Stone’s memorable scenes.

But the film which really put Stone on the map was raunchy psycho-thriller Basic Instinct (1992), which single-handedly made her an overnight star – courtesy of its infamous interrogation scene. With Stone in the role of a bisexual murder suspect, her breakthrough film was a massive blockbuster hit, fetching a total of $352m at the box office, and earned Stone a Golden Globe nomination for her performance.

With her star on the rise, Stone appeared the following year in Silver for a record $2.5m (the highest salary paid to an actress at the time).

Her subsequent outings in Intersection and The Specialist (1994) fetched Stone a reported $10m with impressive pay cheques following for Last Dance and Diabolique (both released in 1996) and Casino (1995) – for which she was nominated for an Academy Award.

With Basic Instinct 2 (released in 2006) Stone’s net worth shot up as she received a reported $13.6m to reprise her iconic role as Catherine Tramell.

Her latest movie, What About Love, has just completed post-production and she is set to play a high school teacher in the yet-to-be shot Attachment.

In 2013, Stone received the Peace Summit Award in recognition of her outstanding work with HIV and AIDS patients.
Currently residing in California, Stone also owns a large ranch property in New Zealand.
