Last night at 45 Park Lane, guests including Jemima Khan, Sir Mark Thatcher and Jemima Jones gathered to celebrate the launch of issue 33 of Spear’s, guest-edited by Ben Goldsmith. The party was sponsored by GAM.
Drinking Beluga Vodka cocktails on the hottest day of the year so far, guests flicked through copies of the issue, which has guest contributors including HRH The Prince of Wales, Sir Richard Branson and Mike Atherton.
Having jumped up onto a chair, Ben gave a brief speech about how it had been ‘a pleasure to edit Spear’s, this cross between Forbes and Vanity Fair, and to put a strong theme of sustainability in it.’
He praised the lead the Prince of Wales has taken in promoting sustainability, which he wrote about in his piece, and talked about another of his favourite articles: ‘Of course, it wouldn’t be my guest-edit without my hero Mike Atherton, who had written about Test cricket and how people are turning away from it towards the pornography of three-hour Twenty20, which is like sustainability in that people want the quick reward.’
Josh Spero, who jumped onto the chair after Ben, picked up on his theme: ‘We’re so pleased Ben has brought a green theme to Spear’s. Will we be going straight back to articles on private jets? No!’
Guests included: Adam Dant, Alain Elkann, HE Brenda Johnson, Anders Holch Povlsen, Anne McElvoy, Anouschka Menzies, Caroline St George, Chris Hohn, Constantin Windisch-Graetz, Cornelia von Rittberg, Ella Krasner, Emily Lewis, Evy Hambro, Faisel Rahman, George Latham, HE Alain Economides, Isabel Goldsmith, Ivan Lindsay, James Rothschild, Jemima Khan, Jonathan Aitken, Laetitia Cash, Leon Max, Nadja Swarovski, Oliver Thring, Sam Aldenton, Sir Mark Thatcher, Sophia Beddow.
Guests took home tote bags in Spear’s red with a copy of the magazine and ethically-produced Original Beans chocolate.
