UBS Global Asset Management is preparing to unveil its first private equity fund to focus on the Middle East. The fund is being run in partnership with regional company MerchantBridge, as the Swiss fund manager seeks to diversify its business.

John Fraser, chief executive of UBS Global Asset Management, told the FT that investor sentiment in these uncertain times was moving towards “harder” assets, such as infrastructure, property and private equity.

Mr Fraser, who also acts as chairman for UBS’s Saudi Arabian arm, said the bank’s contacts in the kingdom, the main focus for the $500 million fund, would also feed deal flow.
