London’s Best Food Delivery Services

By Spear's

In general things are more fun when they have wheels on chairs, trainers, dogs which is why this week Spear’s is looking at three new food delivery services in London.

In general things are more fun when they have wheels on — chairs, trainers, dogs — which is why this week I am looking at three new food delivery services in London. We’re not talking about your regular online shop here but rather artisan produce, burgers in tubes and beautifully fresh sushi direct to your door.

Tilia’s artistan produce

Tilia – certified Artisan Groceries (www.tilia.co.uk)

First up is a new grocery delivery service. Tilia have teamed up with some of the best artisan producers in London to deliver top quality produce directly to your door. From Allen’s of Mayfair to The Rib Man, who can normally only be tracked down near Brick Lane or King’s Cross on market days, they have a great list of suppliers covering everything from bread to fine cheeses and artisan crackers.

I took delivery of a bundle last Saturday from a gentleman in a shirt, tie and good old-fashioned greengrocers apron. Rather charming and much nicer than your usual polo-shirt-and-cargo-short-clad delivery man. They also deliver within a time slot of only two hours, so there is none of the usual hanging around for a delivery ‘at some point’ on your chosen day.

All of the produce was of a very high-quality, thoughtfully packaged and clearly labeled (useful for the cheeses). Worth having a look at if you’re after some great produce but don’t have the time to go to all the different suppliers yourself.

Chosen bun’s clever packaging (hairy hand not included)

Chosen Bun (www.chosenbun.com)

Yes. It is another burger place. Don’t stop reading, though, as these burgers have wheels! Well, not the burgers themselves but the chaps at Chosen Bun can deliver their carefully crafted buns directly to your house (as long as you live within two miles of their Fulham shop).

Having tasted over 1000 patties, probably one too many onion rings and far too many chips, they have come up with, what they think, is the ultimate burger. The problem then is how to get that burger to you without it spoiling. I’m probably not the only one who thinks of horrible yellow foam boxes filled with nasty, soggy burgers when thinking of take-away burgers.

Chosen Bun have devised their own packaging that not only keeps the burger all in one piece but also aerated, fresh and — most importantly — not soggy. Being a north London girl I haven’t managed to get my hands on one yet, but word on the street is positive. Try them out, Fulham folk!

K10’s Spring Box

K10 Delivery (www.k10.com/k10-delivery)

K10 is a modern Japanese restaurant based in the City. You can eat in, take away and also, if you’re within the designated area (EC1, EC2, EC3, EC4, E14), have corporate deliveries. They aim to deliver within 45 minutes of receiving your order.

We tried some out in the Spear’s office this week and in the interest of thoroughness we tried the sushi plus a number of the hot dishes. The hot dishes — katsu curry, teriyaki salmon and chicken, yakisoba — were all very generously sized and perfectly nice but the sushi was the real stand out.

Well spiced, fresh and beautifully presented, even after half an hour on the back of a bike. I would definitely recommend ordering the sushi in if you’re in need of lunch but short of time.
