The Laguna Bali, Indonesia

By Spear's

A glorious resort overlooking the Indian Ocean and one of Bali’s best beaches with access to 5,000 meters of swimmable lagoon, The Laguna, A Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Nusa Dua, Bali is ideal holiday territory. Surrounded by tropical gardens, the suites, rooms and eleven private villas provide the backdrop to all guests’ needs, activities and pampering.
There is butler service throughout, a choice of restaurants and bars and a serious spa and fitness centre. The adventurous and active will love the activities available — everything from windsurfing to scuba diving, snorkeling and kayaking — not to mention that great lagoon for swimming, floating and playing.
The water theme continues throughout, as both the spa and fitness centre are carved under waterfalls. Kids can be amused with a pool sized for your pre-adults.
One of the most beautiful islands in the Indian Ocean, Bali has much to offer travelers who can tear themselves away from the opulence of their resort — there are waterfalls and paddy fields that glitter like carved emeralds, and temples and shrines. And while Nusa Dua itself is a gated beach colony, it also houses the most popular golf course on the island and a charming museum devoted to the art of Bali and its neighbors

Couples of all ages, groups of friends, families during the school holidays and businessmen and their partners attending the many conventions held here. Visitors come from Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, the UK, China, Japan, Switzerland and Germany. It’s an island everyone loves.

The high humidity of Bali — sometimes 75 per cent or higher — can make it feel even hotter than the normal 30°C daytime temperatures. While a sea breeze is thus often welcome, it can get a little cooler towards the end of the dry season, which runs from April to October. Like elsewhere in the tropics, meanwhile, even in the wet season you’re still sure to see plenty of sun.

The resort’s Lagoon Spa has a comprehensive menu of rituals, massages, facials, body and bathing treatments and offers a three-day cleansing programme. Choose from a Balinese, Thai, aromatherapy or shiatsu massage, but whichever you opt for the therapist will adapt it to your needs. Also on offer are an Ayurveda-based shirodhara treatment and a number of anti-cellulite and detox therapies. A selection of treatments for men includes facials and waxings, while a half-day top-to-toe special includes a massage, body scrub, facial and a mani or pedi and a haircut. The same is available for women but with a hair treatment, while there are special offerings for children too, including creamy wraps scented with chocolate, strawberries or honey, as well as a ‘Fancy Nails’ session and ‘Mom and Me’, for a child and mother together.
The fitness centre is open 24 hours and there are also yoga and meditation classes on offer, plus some classes in Bayu Suci, which is based on traditional Balinese dance movements.

See Bali — it’s a beautiful island, from the white beaches in the south to the volcanic versions as you begin to go north. Inland there are forests and rivers, villages and temples and shrines. The Balinese are Hindu, and each different day seems to bring its own special prayers and festivities, so you will often see a stream of villagers heading across the fields or by the roadside, making their way towards the temple with offerings.
Many of the villages are devoted to specific crafts such as wood carving, silversmithing or textiles. The concierge or your butler will help organize any outings you might need — or simply hire a bicycle and explore on your own.

It has to be the Lagoon Kelapa Ritual: two and a half hours of utter indulgence that begins with a coconut milk foot bath, then a kelapa body scrub incorporating green tea and local herbs to leave the body smooth and velvety. This is followed by a traditional Balinese massage and ends with a blissful hairspa treatment using virgin coconut oil.
