Renowned for their sturdy, reliable and beautiful watches, IWC Shaffhausen has developed a new range of evolutionary timepieces. The Aquatimer collection consists of diver’s watches, some inspired by Darwin and his expeditions, and others by marine expert, Jacques Cousteau.
The Charles Darwin inspired watches include the Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month watch (pictured above), the second largest watch (after the Big Pilot’s watch) in IWC’s history. There is also the Aquatimer Deep Three (pictured below) in titanium, which features a mechanical depth gauge just so you know how deep you are.
Other watches in the collection include the Aquatimer Chronograph Edition “50 Years Science for Galapagos” timepiece (below). The striking watch – of which there are only 500 – was made to honour the Charles Darwin Research Station’s 50th anniversary.
The most special of the Charles Darwin watches is without doubt the Aquatimer Chronograph Edition “Expedition Charles Darwin”(below). Specifically inspired by his famous odyssey to the Galapagos Islands where he researched and gathered evidence to write his theory on the origin of species. The watch is set in bronze as that was the key material used in shipbuilding in Darwin’s time and assisted in his world-changing discoveries.

Marine researcher, Jacques Cousteau, also received recognition for his preservation work for the seas. The Aquatimer Chronograph Edition “Expedition Jacques-Yves Cousteau” (below) is made from stainless steel and plays reference to Cousteau’s expedition to the Galapagos where he study the behaviour of marine iguanas.
