Over time, the obsession to own these colourful masterpieces has resulted in them having price tags so high that they have become the most valuable paintings ever sold in the world.

Each time these classics have changed hands, their values have risen. Today we present you with a list of the paintings that have created world records with their big prices.

First in the list of the ten most valuable paintings ever sold is The Card Players by Paul Cezanne which stands in the top position with a price of $250 million.

Reportedly purchased by Qatar’s royal family in 2011, the painting is currently thought to be the most valuable painting ever sold in the world.

Next on the list is Picasso’s Le Reve, which billionaire Steve Cohen bought for $155 million, followed by a 1969 Francis Bacon triptych, which fetched $142.4 million at auction in 2013.

In fourth position stands Jackson Pollock’s No. 5, 1948, sold for $140 million in 2006.

Willem de Kooning’s Woman III painting sits at fifth place in the list of the most valuable paintings ever sold with a value of $137.5 million, while in the sixth position is Gustav Elimt’s Adele Bloch Baner I, which sold for $135 million.
