Zoë Ball is a British TV and radio presenter.

Childhood
Born Zoë Louise Ball to Julia Anderson and children’s TV presenter Johnny Ball, on November 23, 1970 in Blackpool, Lancashire, England, the BBC TV and radio host was raised in Farnham Common, Buckinghamshire after her parents divorced when she was just two.

During her school days, Zoë Ball underwent actor training at Beaconsfield’s Young Theatre. She first appeared on TV, among the audience, in Saturday Superstore (children’s show of the 1980s) where her dad made guest appearances.

TV Career
Ball’s career started as a runner and researcher at Granada Television and BSkyB, respectively. After working a couple of years as a quiz show researcher, she went on to co-host CBBC’s SMart in 1994. She presented Top of the Pops from 1996 until 1998, during which time she was also co-presenter for Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast (1996), and BBC One’s Live & Kicking (1996-99). Ball then co-presented Channel 4’s The Priory from 1999-2001.

Other TV shows she presented include the BRIT Awards in 2002, Extinct in 2006, Grease Is the Word in 2007, Britain’s Best Brain in 2009, The One Show from 2012-2013 and 2016-2017, Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor and Children in Need in 2013, The Voice: Louder on Two in 2014, EastEnders: Backstage Live, The Nation’s Favourite70s and ’80s Number One in 2015, Can’t Touch This in 2016, The Big Family Cooking Showdown in 2017, Zoë Ball’s Hardest Road Home and Zoë Ball on… in 2018.

Strictly Come Dancing
She came third in BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing with professional dance partner Ian Waite.
In 2011, she took over from Claudia Winkleman as the host of BBC Two’s Strictly Come Dancing’s offshoot It Takes Two. Ball also stood in for Winkleman during six episodes of the main show in 2014, besides hosting the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour in 2011 and 2015.

Radio Career
Ball began her radio career as co-presenter of BBC’s Radio 1 Breakfast Show in 1997—the first woman to host the show.
In 2002 she hosted Drivetime with Zoë at XFM. In 2004, at the same station, she began presenting the music show Zoë Ball, but left XFM by the end of the year.

Her other radio shows include BBC Radio 1’s Zoë Ball and BBC Radio 2’s Baker and Ball in 2008, Zoë Ball from 2009-12 and The Zoë Ball Show from 2017-18.
Occasionally covering for Chris Evans on BBC’s Radio 2 Breakfast Show, Ball was announced as the show’s new host, in October 2018. Her stint begins from January 2019, will see Ball earn £1.2 million per annum, almost a million more than her previous salary of £300,000. Her new salary makes her the highest paid woman on BBC’s payroll.

Charity
A supporter of the Love Mum campaign in 2014, Ball also raised £1,198,012 for Sport Relief by cycling in the ‘Hardest Ride Home’ in 2018.

Personal life
Ball was married to ex-bassist of The Housemartins, Quentin ‘Norman’ Cook, aka DJ Fatboy Slim from 1999-2016. She is currently dating construction bigwig Michael Reed.
The BBC presenter recently sold her £2.5 million “party pad” on Brighton’s beachfront and moved into a £970,000 property in Ditchling village, East Sussex.

Although Cook and Ball had a combined net worth of £20 million in 2016, Cook alone is worth about £30 million now. They have a son and daughter—Woody and Nelly.
