Top Five Business Breakfast Venues in London

By Spear's

Business breakfasts are the perfect way to start a working day: you get to eat on expenses; there may well be pastries; and while you start early, you can get into work a little late. This week, we are looking at top spots to talk shop over some eggs

Hix Soho

Hix Soho wouldn’t be your first thought for breakfast – it’s more a late-night venue – but they are now open weekday mornings, with wifi, papers and enough space to talk business. Serving up ‘build your own’ breakfasts that are all thoroughly British you can construct your perfect fry-up with some, or preferably all, of the following: eggs, bacon, sausage, asparagus, mushrooms, lamb’s kidneys…

Also on offer are the usual granola option for those too embarrassed to order what they really want; pastries and toast; kedgeree; and a cracking eggs de Beauvoir with their home-smoked salmon (smoked on the roof of Selfridges) and Clarence Court eggs (with yokes like tangerines).

They also have some lovely juices and for those who were at Mark’s bar the night before, Bloody Marys.

Hix are offering all Spear’s readers 10 per cent off the total bill from now until the 31st October – just tell them when you book (and again when you get your bill). Smashing.

Riding House Café

Over the past few months the name that keeps cropping up for breakfast is the Riding House Café. Tucked away north of Oxford Street it is a top spot for a more informal business breakfast.

The menu ranges from the healthy to the delicious (bacon and avocado sandwich where the avocado nullifies the bacon fat, I believe). It is crowded and busy so not perfect for serious strategising, but great for a PR catch up.

Dean Street Townhouse

A crowd pleaser, this one. Reliably good breakfasts, not too busy and with a great Soho location, the Dean Street Townhouse is invariably full. With comfortable velvet chairs and low tables, it isn’t the most convenient for notetaking or laptop work but is great for setting plans in motion in a dignified environment.

Cecconi’s

The green leather is known across Mayfair and is a favourite with business folk. Discreet enough to talk strategy but also one of those places that you want to be seen in, Cecconi’s offers an extensive ‘light and healthy’ menu as well as the usual pastries and a selection of Burford Brown egg options.

The Wolseley

This one had to go in. It is top of the list of good breakfast locations for many and is renowned throughout the city. Reservations are recommended as is allowing time to people-watch. The breakfast menu is varied and tempting and, if you’re not paying, you can even tuck into a caviar omelette – delightfully decadent at £67.

Although a quintessentially ‘London’ place, the feel is distinctly European so for those not native to the big smoke, you can probably find something that reminds you nicely of home here.
