In the brutal times of the credit crunch, the Spear’s Awards remind us of the good work that goes on in London.
The Spear’s Wealth Management Awards were held last night at Sotheby’s to honour the achievements of those in the high net worth and ultra high net worth worlds. First of all congratulations to the nominees, all worthy contenders, and of course especial congratulations to the winners, who have fought through tough fields.
In the brutal times of the credit crunch and bank crashes, these awards are more important than ever: they remind us of all the good work that goes on in London in wealth management. The good practice, the innovative solutions, the outstanding achievements of all the nominees show that the quality of London’s financial sector remains strong.
Our categories ranged widely: from the private banker at the peak of their career to the future leaders standing just behind them, from the philanthropist who takes a close involvement in their gifts to the art adviser who steers their collections in the right direction.
The asset managers who keep their client in the money and the lawyers who keep them out of court were also recognized, as are the brands HNWs buy and the airlines they fly.
Last year our Lifetime Achievement award-winner, Marcus Gregson, said that London was experiencing “a golden age, a sort of perfect storm.” Perhaps now we might substitute ‘eye of the storm’ but his point still stands: London has talent to spare in every department.
Whittling down the categories to their current nominees proved extremely difficult, and the judging events – our panels consisted of experts in all areas of the HNW world and Spear’s journalists – were veritably gruelling.
Our winners can be found here. Congratulations again to all the winners and nominees.
