As celebrated by the new Russian edition of Spear’s WMS, Moscow is a home from home for high net worths, and when the HNWs are in town they head to Michael’s. Despite a good 1,500 miles (and 20°C) between Moscow and Rome, the Russians have taken the warm Mediterranean ambience to their heart, and Michael’s is a key exponent.
The Mediterranean atmosphere is created with natural materials: oak walls, clay floor tiles, white leather sofas and dried lianas. The open kitchen allows diners to see the drama that goes into creating their food, while letting the flavours reach them before the food.
If the dining room’s black oak tables are not quite de rigueur around the houses of Marseilles and Athens, the food is equally diverse, with global highlights brought together: tuna and salmon carpaccio, black cod, lobster, anchovies and young spinach salad, rabbit ragout or gazpacho. The food is simple, fresh and delicious.
