By Spear's

Author: Peter Matthews

A host of contenders vie for a slot on our list. They have not only succeeded in living their dreams but have also paved the way for the next generation of young females in business.

We have chosen women from fields as diverse as defence and technology to apparel and entertainment. Top of the list is Virginia Ginni Rometty, chairperson and CEO of software giant IBM, who is the first woman ever to head the company. PepsiCo’s Indian-origin CEO Nooyi occupies the second slot, followed by DuPont’s Ellen Kullman and Lockheed Martin’s Marillyn Hewson.

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, one of only 20 female CEOs in charge of a Fortune 500 company, is also featured on our list, with Former Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts, recently poached by Apple to head its retail business, also making an appearance.

Each one of these extraordinarily successful women has gone beyond the traditional hold of the business elite. They have shifted the very idea of clout and authority and have transformed our world in fresh and exciting ways.

Read on to discover 15 of the most successful women in business today.
