Who is Brett Kavanaugh?
Brett Kavanaugh is one of eight Associate Justices of the Supreme Court of the USA.

Childhood and Education
Brett Michael Kavanaugh was born to attorney Everett Edward Kavanaugh Jr. and History teacher turned circuit court judge Martha Gamble (née Murphy) on February 12, 1965 in Washington D.C. Raised in Bethesda, Maryland, Brett Kavanaugh graduated from Yale University in History with a Bachelor of Arts in 1987 and earned his Juris Doctor from Yale Law School in 1990.

Early career
Working as a law clerk for Judge Walter King Stapleton (of the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit) and then for Ninth Circuit Judge Alex Kozinski, Kavanaugh joined the Maryland Bar and the District of Columbia Bar in 1990 and 1992, respectively. He also secured a fellowship for one year in 1992 with Ken Starr, the Solicitor General of the US.

Legal career
From 1993-1994, Kavanaugh worked as a clerk for Anthony Kennedy, the Supreme Court Justice and worked for Ken Starr again as an Associate Counsel in the Office of the Independent Counsel until 1997. Between 1997 and 1999, Kavanaugh was at the law firm Kirkland & Ellis as a partner.

At the end of 2000, he found himself in the legal team of George W. Bush and was hired by the White House Counsel Alberto Gonsales in 2001 after Bush became president. In 2003, he went on to succeed Harriet Miers as White House Staff Secretary and Assistant to President Bush who nominated Kavanaugh as judge to the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit that July. Although it took the Senate nearly three years to confirm, in June 2006, Kavanaugh became the fourth Bush nomination to be made judge on the D.C. Circuit. Since then, he has taught full-term courses at Harvard Law School, Georgetown University Law Center and Yale Law School until 2018.

Considered a feeder judge among US legal circles, Kavanaugh’s written opinion on court cases was adopted by the Supreme Court 13 out of 14 times.
Nominated to the Supreme Court by President Donald Trump in July 2018, Kavanaugh was sworn in on October 6, 2018 as the 114th Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, succeeding Anthony Kennedy.

Assets
It seems Kavanaugh is the poorest among the eight Supreme Court judges. According to the Center for Responsive Politics—the financial disclosures tracker of high-rank US government officials—the average “net worth” of Supreme Court judges stands at $4.6 million. In his personal financial disclosure of 2017, Kavanaugh’s net worth is shown as $942,000, which includes $480,000 in government retirement accounts and $400,000 in home equity.

A staunch Catholic, Kavanaugh supports Catholic Charities USA.

Personal life
Married to Ashley Estes (former personal secretary to President George W. Bush) in 2004, the couple have two daughters, Margaret and Liza. The family has been living in the neighbourhood of Chevy Chase Section Five, Maryland since 2006, of which Ashley is the town manager.

Fun fact – Kavanaugh coaches both his daughters’ basketball teams.
