David Cameron and his confederacy of dunces have lost it, says Stephen Hill.
The sound of serial backfiring from Downing Street is about to be reported to the Westminster CC Noise Abatement Officer, as being deafeningly offensive, duplicitous and contrary to the Clean Air Act, causing pollution and climate change inside the Westminster Bubble, which is threatening to explode all over the British Isles, and pollute our climes. Bid them achieve us, if we Bremain in.
The PM spent £9 million of taxpayers’ money on a Bremain pamphlet, shoved through everyone’s front door the week before the official campaign even began – an affront indeed! – which was full of outright lies, such as we can control our own borders while in the EU; we are safer inside the EU; our food is cheaper in the EU, all of which is complete and utter clap-trap.
Next comes Cameron’s invitation to the Lame Duck of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue: the PM knows it’s a no-go area to interfere with the sovereign affairs of another nation, so why did he feel he could issue such an invitation, and so why is he in No. 10 at all? A lot of Conservative MPs – about two-thirds of them – are asking the same question: at this rate, Cameron could easily cause the Tory Party to split, with him and Osborne going where, exactly?

Then his close schemer at No. 11 issues a report prepared by HM Treasury which also supports the Bremainers. It took a year to prepare and was all paid for by us taxpayers too, and is based on false assumptions and questionable maths: a group of ‘Economists for Brexit’, led by Professor Patrick Minford, who have paid for their time with funds they have raised themselves, has published a rebuttal showing a contrary outcome, based on sound ground.
Osborne’s back of fag-packet assumptions were based on an absurd assertion of lost growth post-Brexit: the ONS figure for Quarter 1 growth was a worsening 0.4 per cent – down to 0.1 per cent in the US – as Osborne falsely sought to blame this decline on Brexit. Minford branded the Treasury Report as ‘based on almost no proper economic thought and it does not stand up to any kind of scrutiny’.
Minford & Co’s report flies in the face of those other dunces who signed up for Cameron’s Bremain Conspiracy: the OECD and Mme Christine Lagarde’s pro-Euro IMF – who claimed ‘We have broken all the rules!’ as she served up Greek Bailout No. 3 – in which the UK was forced to participate via an IMF call – and which at 177 per cent of Greece’s falling GDP, doesn’t even begin to compute – like Osborne’s trumpeted HM Treasury’s Report.

Then, to add insult to injury, it emerges from the foul atmosphere inside Nos. 10 and 11, that Cameron made the TUC pay £1.7 million to the Union’s Bremain campaign, just as the promised, but watered-down, Trade Union Bill is making its passage through Halitosis Hall; and as he co-signs a Bremain letter with the former dishonourable secretary-general of the TUC. Cameron has just given a red card for his own sending-off to the TUC – how foolish can he get? Forget cash-for-questions – it’s now cash-for-manifesto-policy-suppression.
Cameron and Osborne have lost it. I sense a Camerout moment flies in this pestilent and duplicitous atmosphere and an Osbornout one too. Shortly they may feel the cold steel penetrate their ribcages, as the men in white coats carry off their political corpses for an indecent burial. ‘That it should come to this, but two months away, nay less than that … at least a beast that wants discourse of reason would sooner vote for Brexit’.
