Imagine, if you will, the most picture-perfect resort overlooking the brilliant turquoise of the Aegean Sea, edged with white, sandy blue-flag beaches and a backdrop of pine forests and wetlands that are home to one of the most important bird sanctuaries in Greece.
Then add four five-star hotels, eighteen restaurants, a marina fit for millionaires, three crèche and mini clubs, two watersport centres, its own village full of designer shops, boutiques and cafés, a sports club, two annual festivals (one celebrating the performing arts, another food) and three full-service spas. All this comes together at Sani Resort. Three of the hotels — Porto Sani Village, Sani Beach Hotel and Sani Beach Club — have their own spas and all three offer specially designed Anne Semonin beauty and body treatments. Should you opt to stay in Sani Asterias Suites, the resort’s boutique hotel, then in-room treatments are available.
Families from the UK and northern Europe, as well as locals. Cosmopolitan couples and honeymooners (Sani is popular for weddings too), glamorous yachties and groups of friends.
The summer months of July and August when the temperatures rise above 30°C, are of course high season. Both June and September are also glorious times to visit this part of Greece. With heated pools from 2015, however, all times of year will be divine at the Sani Resort.
All three spas share many of the beauty treatments and therapies, including a choice of express taster treatments which have been devised by Anne Semonin specifically for the resort. Try the Aromatic Face Drainage and soothing scalp massage on arrival to rid you of any tiredness from the journey… and then book a Nude Sand Warming Scrub Experience to prepare your body for sun-kissed tanning.
There is of course a menu of classic massages, from aromatherapy to hot stone, as well as a great four-handed massage, one of the ultimate spa experiences. On offer too are treatments for couples and mothers-to-be, manis and pedis for children and a wide choice of therapies for men. There are also a number of rituals lasting from two and half to five hours. Should you really want pampering, then opt for one of these, which includes everything fromhead to toe.
The spa at the Sani Beach Club also offers a range of treatments from around the world — including Ayurveda, Thai and Lomi Lomi massage, as well as the full European choice.
The resort can organize tours of the hinterland, from wine tasting to hiking, sailing and exploring. However, a short self-guided walk or run (maps are available) of the bird sanctuary should be on your list — as should a trip to Thessaloniki, the second largest city in Greece, which has its Byzantine churches, an acropolis and an archaeological museum.
Simply floating on the clear, warm waters of the Aegean… and for something completely different, one of the cryotherapy treatments on offer at the spa, which use specially formulated active serums in the form of ice cubes.
