One Spear’s team member didn’t enjoy the cook-you-own-dinner experience of Aveqia London quite as much as the others…

‘I signed up to Aveqia’s cookery school because it sounded fun. And it was, though I was tasked with dusting mushrooms for thirty minutes. Now I don’t want to play to the stereotype, but I really didn’t know the occupation existed. Imagine having it on your CV – excellent technique, diligent attitude – it’s simply barmy.

‘Anyway, the job was hastened by spirited conversation with my fellow diners. And it wasn’t hard to find new ground with them given that one was armed with a blowtorch and another was grilling reindeer. All in all, I found Aveqia to be a very social experience. Even though I’m more of an eater than a cooker, and have always been bemused by the concept of cooking one’s own meal at a restaurant, I found the night enjoyable.’
