YouTube star and vlogger/comedienne with nearly two billion views to her name, Jenna Marbles has an estimated net worth of £1.75 million.
Born Jenna Nicole Mourey in Rochester, New York on September 15, 1986, Jenna Marbles graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) from Suffolk University, Boston followed by a Master of Education in Sports Psychology and Counseling from Boston University.
Juggling odd jobs (go-go dancing, bartending and working at a tanning salon), Marbles soon began writing for David Portnoy’s blog Barstool Sports, where he taught her the business of making funny videos. Her first video “How to Trick People into Thinking You’re Good Looking” in 2010 shot to fame immediately attracting 5.3 million views in the first week. It now boasts over 60 million clicks and counting.
Portnoy helped Marbles get her first website called Stool lala, where she wrote for six months before becoming a full-time vlogger. Marbles’ next vlog “How to Avoid Talking to People You Don’t Want to Talk to” got coverage on ABC News and The New York Times in August 2011. As of November 2015, it has garnered over 35 million clicks.
She decided to adopt her Chihuahua’s name, Mr. Marbles, calling herself “Jenna Marbles” because her mother Deborah Mourey complained that a web search for their surname ‘Mourey’ brought out only her daughter’s videos and was of no help in a job search.
Marbles appears in other web-based programmes such as Epic Rap Battles of History, Annoying Orange, YouTube Rewind 2013 and Ridiculousness (2014). She was also a guest on Millionaire Matchmaker and starred in Smosh: The Movie (July 2015).
She launched Kermie Worm & Mr. Marbles, dog toys named after her own dogs Kermit and Mr. Marbles. She’s also the host for YouTube 15 on SiriusXM Hits 1, a weekly pop countdown, apart from hosting the Jenna and Julien Podcast, along with current boyfriend Julien Solomita.
A “Do It Yourself (D.I.Y.) digital entertainer”, she uploads a new vlog every Wednesday or Thursday, creating the hilarious videos on her own. Now, she has had to expand her team, which now comprises her mother, a business manager, a personal assistant and a chief technical officer. Marbles’ huge collection of fans contributes over a million clicks per day, of whom she keeps track of through social media.
An analysis of YouTube’s JennaMarbles channel by California’s video ad-buying platform TubeMogul concluded that her 2012 earnings were $346,827.12.
Many of her videos include cameos of her then boyfriend Max Weisz or YouTube’s MaxNoSleeves, who later began his own weekly vlogs à la Marbles after they split.
JennaMarbles is the topmost channel managed by a woman and also YouTube’s seventh most subscribed (over 15 million). By July 2015, its click rate had crossed 1.8 billion.
