Professional football coach and current manager of Juventus, Maurizio Sarri’s net worth is estimated to be over £5 million.
Who is Maurizio Sarri?
Italian Maurizio Sarri is a professional football coach and the current manager of Serie A club Juventus.
Childhood
Maurizio Sarri was born on January 10, 1959 in Bagnoli, Naples. His parents worked in the steel plant Italsider.
Football
Growing up in Castro, Bergamo, Sarri later moved to Faella, Arezzo where he began playing football and also worked in the Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena, Tuscany. Sarri also spent time working in Luxembourg, Zurich and London.
Playing amateur football, as a centre back, Sarri was part of the Tuscan team ASD Giallo-Blu Figline. Attending to his banking duties in the morning, Sarri trained in the afternoon and played football matches in the evening. However, nagging injuries retired him as a player while at Figline. He put on his coaching shoes at the age of 30 with Seconda Categoria team U.S.D. Stia.
Coaching career
Sarri moved to Faellese in 1991, Cavriglia in 1993, Antella in 1996 and then Valdema from 1998 to 1999. He gave up the banking profession to be a full-time coach upon being appointed to train the tiny football club Tegoleto. The Italian soon ascended the league to Serie D after he signed up with Sansovino in 2000. His success there prompted Serie C’s Sangiovannese to sign him up in 2003 from where he moved up to Serie B’s Pescara in 2005 and Arezzo in 2006, followed by a quick run of clubs from 2007-2012 with Avellino, Hellas Verona, Perugia, Grosseto, Alessandria and Sorrento.
Empoli
The workaholic ex-banker showed promise in his next signing with Empoli in 2012 and steered the Tuscan side to automatic Serie A promotion in season 2013-14 with second spot in the Serie B League table.
Napoli
In 2015, the meticulous Neapolitan was grabbed by his home club Napoli, a faith that he justified with second place for his team in Serie A that season. Season 2016-17 saw Napoli retreat to third place and again advance to second in 2017-18 (just four points behind champions Juventus).
Chelsea
In 2018 he was appointed the manager of Chelsea FC in the English Premier League. His coaching prowess was immediately apparent as he became the first manager/coach not to lose the first 12 Premier League games. He also led Chelsea to the final of the 2019 EFL Cup against Manchester City, but the feather in his cap was the UEFA Europa League trophy win trouncing Arsenal in the final. Sarri’s severance package following his exit from Chelsea left him approximately £5 million richer.
Juventus
June 2019 saw the workaholic perfectionist—inventor of his own exciting brand of football, “Sarri-ball”—being lured back to Italy on a three-year deal worth £6 million (plus bonuses) by Juventus.
Awards and accolades
The superstitious Sarri was instrumental in Sansovino winning the Coppa Italia Serie D in 2002-03 and was also the EFL Cup runner-up with Chelsea in 2018-19. His greatest achievement so far has been to lead Chelsea to the UEFA Europa League title in 2018-19.
Individual awards won by Sarri include the Panchino d’Argento in 2013-14, Panchino d’Oro in 2015-16, Serie A Coach of the Year in 2016-17 and the Enzo Bearzot Award in 2017.
Personal life
Sarri lives with his wife Marina, their son and their pet dog. Before his Chelsea sojourn, he lived with his family in a secluded home in the Riviera.
