November saw the ‘Art of Hedge’ exhibition, at the Robilant & Voena gallery, to celebrate the work of Spear’s illustrator Adam Dant. The evening broke the mould of both what is expected from a Mayfair art exhibition, as well as its guests. Bankers, lawyers, hedge fund and private equity managers alike filled the upstairs gallery to appreciate a little Hedge Row satire and perhaps secretly spot themselves in one of the ink drawings.
Champagne and canapés were enjoyed against a backdrop of images of hedge fund heaven and hell – some of the guests confessed that they felt right at home. Among the celebrated guests were financial luminaries such as Baron von Stumm, Paul Althasen and Sebastian Taylor. The scene of London’s rich and powerful inter-mingling and enjoying the finer things in life amid Dant’s works supported the old adage that ‘art imitates life’.
