Suzanne Gyorgy leads the art finance and advisory team of Citi Private Bank, one of the first private banks to explore the concept of art as collateral. The fine arts graduate joined the bank in 1999 after spells at the Morris Museum and PaineWebber Gallery.
Gyorgy’s team prioritises transparency. ‘We view it as a relationship business,’ she says. ‘Because we’re in the market and our clients are collectors, we’re able to open up the dialogue around the art market in a way that is very unique for a private bank.’
Her advice to collectors is to ‘relax and have fun… Rely on professional advice to guide you
to buy what you want to buy, not what the market buzz says you should be buying.’
