Freddy Barker reviews Spear’s award ceremonies and winners in 2012, from the newly-launched Young Turk Awards, to the more established Spear’s Book Awards and flagship Spear’s Awards
Spear’s has hosted three awards ceremonies in 2012, each a lively blend of HNWs and advisors.
First came the inaugural Young Turk Awards in May. Held at Jack Barclay, it recognised rising stars from finance to art in front of guests ranging from Mark Thatcher to John Dorrance.
The presenter Georgina Rylance handed gongs to industry entrants such as David Nelson from Towry and Bradley Williams from Family Law in Partnership as well as to established names such as Nathalie Dauriac-Stoebe at Signia and Adam Proctor at Citi.

The Jubilee and Olympics passed before Spear’s hosted ceremony number two: the Book Awards.
Sponsored by Harbottle & Lewis, authors from the worlds of finance and fiction were crowned at a glamorous literary lunch at the Corinthia hotel, with guests including Lord Moynihan (whose Spear’s diary you can read here), Ozwald Boateng, Harry Mount and Baron Sackville.

In the business and financial history book of the year categories, the judging panel, which included the FSA’s James Strachan and the Spectator’s Martin Vander Weyer, awarded prizes to Philip Coggan for Paper Promises: Money, Debt and the New World Order and Sylvia Nasar for Grand Pursuit: A Story of Economic Genius.

Last, but by no means least, was October’s Wealth Management Awards. The flagship event in Spear’s calendar, it saw 700 of the great and good descend on Phillips de Pury to watch the seller of £3 billion of Bishop’s Avenue property, Trevor Abrahmsohn, win the Lifetime Achievement Award, while C Hoare & Co picked up Private Bank of the Year and Big Society Capital became Spear’s City Champion.
