Born in Chippenham, Wiltshire, England on May 26, 1949 to Naomi Loveday and David Benjamin Corbyn, Corbyn is the youngest of four sons.

Corbyn was educated at Castle House School before attending Adams’ Grammar School in Shropshire as a day student. As well as school, he became active in The Wrekin constituency young socialists, his local labour party and the League Against Cruel Sports. In 1966 he joined the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) and later became one of its three vice-chairs. He joined the labour party at the age of 17 and left school at 18 achieving two E-grade A-levels.

After school, Corbyn worked shortly as a reporter for a local newspaper, the Newport and Market Drayton Advertiser. Around the age of 19, he spent two years doing Voluntary Service Overseas in Jamaica as a youth worker and geography teacher. He briefly attended North London Polytechnic before pursuing a career as a left-wing political activist. By the age of 25 (1974), he was elected in 1974 Haringey Borough Council and soon began working for the National Union of Public Employees. He would have been receiving around £4,500 a year as an MP this number has now risen significantly.

Over the years, his £4,500 salary rose to £8,000, then to £15,000. As of this year Corbyn is now earning  £137,000 as his salary. He is famous for living a simple life. As he claims the position as MP, and Labour leader £74,962 and £62,440 goes into his account yearly. Together this makes over £137,000. Over 30 years, he has claimed over £3 million from the state alone. This is £1.5 million more than a normal MP. Once he retires, he’s set to earn £1.6 million pension.
