A briefing note from the Institute for Fiscal Studies on living standards during the recession finds that the wealthiest 10 per cent of households have suffered a fall of around £2,200 from 2008 levels. Due to tax increases – notably the new 50 per cent tax rate for income over £150,000 – and a decline from savings interest, wealthier households have been more affected than others.
