New Netjets agreement with Lilium stands to promote sustainable private aviation

By Tanya Ghahremani

The world’s largest private aviation company, Netjets, have signed an agreement with aerospace company Lilium, the maker of all-electric vertical take-off and landing jets, also known as eVTOLs.

In a new prospective strategic partnership between Netjets and Lilium, Netjets will claim the right to purchase up to 150 eVTOLs from Lilium, and supporting Lilium with private sales campaigns to encourage private buyers to purchase Lilium aircrafts.

In a statement, the founder and CEO of Lilium Daniel Wiegand said, ‘This partnership is a major step in our mission to build radically better ways of moving and to electrify regional air travel. We believe that the private and business professional segments will be highly attractive markets in the future and, likewise, early adopters of the eVTOL revolution.’

eVTOL aircrafts boast a number of benefits, mainly due to their ability to use electric power to vertically take-off, land and even hover. They can be a faster, more efficient method of transporting things like deliveries, and have even been studied for benefits in hospital and life-saving drug transportation. In the future, there is some prediction they could even be used as ‘urban air taxis’.

Currently, Netjets operates what is the largest fleet of private jets globally, and, through this deal, Lilium will be able to benefit from Netjets wide customer base in the US. There are even plans for a Florida transport hub that would allow Lilium even more exposure to the US market.

‘We’re delighted to partner with Lilium’s experienced team to provide sustainable flight services to our customers. Lilium’s aircraft will expand our fleet options and provide our customers with a new and flexible means of private air travel,’ Adam Johnson, the CEO of Netjets, said in a statement.
