A mansion on London’s exclusive Eaton Square in Belgravia – complete with 10m indoor swimming pool and staff quarters – has been sold for a knock-down £33m by a Russian tycoon.
Chalva Tchigirinski, who is being sued over the alleged appropriation of funds belonging to Sibir Energy, the London-listed oil company, is understood to have recently sold his London home.
The corner property, known as Hugh House, used to be owned by Lily Safra, widow of Edmond Safra, the billionaire banker. Its six floors feature seven bedrooms, four reception rooms, a library, seven bathrooms and two shower rooms.

Savills, the estate agent handling the sale, had set a guide price of £45m for the lavish property, arguing that it was “arguably the best house” on Eaton Square, one of the most prestigious parts of Belgravia.However, the Financial Times understands that the house ended up selling at a £12m discount to Savills’ guide price. The buyer is a wealthy European whose identity is not known.
