As a 10-year-old child, he appeared on stage in London’s West End in a Sam Mendes production of Oliver!
Redmayne studied at Eton College at the same time as Prince William, later going on to Trinity College, Cambridge, to study History of Art.
In 2002, he performed in Twelfth Night at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. Redmayne soon went on to win Outstanding Newcomer for his performance in The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia? at the 2004 Evening Standard Theatre Awards as well as Best Newcomer at the 2005 Critics’ Circle Theatre Awards.

For his performance in Red (2009) at London’s Donmar Warehouse, Redmayne won the Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. Reprising Red on Broadway at the John Golden Theatre, in a 15-week run from March 11 to June 27, 2010, he was awarded a Tony for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play.
He then returned to Donmar Warehouse to star as Richard II from December 6, 2011 to February 4, 2012.
Redmayne also appeared in the movies The Good Shepherd (2006), Savage Grace (2007), The Other Boleyn Girl (2008), Powder Blue (2008), The Yellow Handkerchief (2008), Glorious 39 (2009), Black Death (2010) and Hick (2011).
In 2011, he played the role of filmmaker Colin Clark in My Week with Marilyn and Marius Pontmercy in the 2012 movie musical Les Misérables.
Further critical plaudits came in 2015 when, starring as world-renowned physicist Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything (2014), Redmayne was awarded a Golden Globe for Best Actor while also being nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars, BAFTAs and SAG Awards.
He is scheduled to appear in the space opera Jupiter Ascending in February 2015.
As well as modelling for Burberry in 2008 and 2012, Redmayne featured on the annual International Best Dressed List of Vanity Fair’s September 2012 issue.
Formally dating Hannah Bagshawe since 2012, the couple married on 15 December 2014 in Somerset. With a Golden Globe now added to his trophy cabinet, the British actor has an estimated net worth of $4,000,000.
