Jersey Finance has expressed “disappointment” at the view of offshore centres presented in Panorama broadcast on BBC One earlier this week.
The edition, entitled Tax Me If You Can, presented a damning view of these jurisdictions as “tax havens.” It targeted Liechtenstein, Cayman Islands and Jersey as all allowing wealthy clients to illegally evade taxes.
“Jersey Finance were naturally disappointed that the Panorama programme chose to be selective in its research of offshore jurisdictions and failed to differentiate between those that are compliant and co-operate whilst preserving client confidentiality, such as Jersey, and those that retain banking secrecy and are not co-operative,” said Geoff Cook, chief executive of Jersey Finance, in a statement to memebers.
