Shame on the Republicans

By Spear's

Obama’s election has now left the Republicans scrambling to catch up ’ and looking like undignified idiots.

It used to be the Democrats who were the gang that couldn’t shoot straight, but Obama’s election has now left the Republicans scrambling to catch up – and looking like undignified idiots.

After Obama’s exceedingly well-received mellifluous speech to Congress, the Republicans chose a little-known ‘rising star’ of the party to deliver their rebuttal: Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal.

The minute he came on the screen, I was shocked: young, nice-looking-enough, clean-cut, brown-skinned and soft-spoken, he was clearly the Republican’s attempt at an Obama doppelganger.

It was so cheap, so pathetic, so undignified, I couldn’t believe this is what the Grand Old Party had come to. If they wanted to show their diversity, they would have done better to choose a Latina woman (if they have one) or someone (anyone) other than a clear imitation of the candidate to whom they lost. Have they no shame?

Clearly not, for the worst was yet to come. When Bobby Jindal opened his mouth, all that came pouring out were platitudes and generalities delivered in incoherent colloquialisms.

If his speech didn’t give you a headache, his tie certainly did: diagonal red and white candy stripes that mimicked the American flag next to him. Just don’t make any sudden movements, Bobby, or there’ll be a national wave of vomiting, I thought to myself. It was so painful, so disastrous, even a political junky like me had to leave the room.

I don’t think Bobby Jindal will be seeing a television camera anytime soon. Suffice it to say, after that poor turnout, Jindal’s career is less rising star and more shooting star – like the meteors that leave those giant burnt craters in the earth. Poor Republicans. Not.
