Zac Efron net worth

By Suren Prasad

Famous for starring in High School Musical, American singer/actor and chiselled teen heartthrob Zac Efron’s net worth is reckoned to be $24 million.

Born on October 18, 1987 to electrical engineer David Efron and secretary Starla Baskett in San Luis Obispo, California, Zachary David Alexander Efron was raised in Arroyo Grande, California.

How did Efron make his millions?

Discovering his singing talent, Zac Efron’s parents encouraged him to perform, leading to his interest in acting. A 11-year-old Efron soon appeared in the long-running musical Gypsy followed by performances in The Great American Melodrama & Vaudeville theatre. He began attending singing classes and more performances followed with Peter Pan; or, The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up, Little Shop of Horrors and The Music Man. After a recommendation to an agent from Robyn Metchik, his drama teacher, Creative Artists Agency signed him up.
From 2000-2001, Efron attended the community college Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts (PCPA) in Santa Maria, California. In 2006, he enrolled at the University of Southern California, but acting kept him away from academics.
Efron’s early appearances were on the TV shows Firefly (2003), The Guardian (2003) and ER (2003) and a starring role in the film The Big Wide World of Carl Laemke (2003). A recurring character in the TV series Summerland (2004-2005), Efron landed an important role in its second season.
He soon starred in the movies Miracle Run (2004), Triple Play (2004), The Derby Stallion (2005) and If You Lived Here, You’d be Home Now (2006).
In 2006, Efron got his breakthrough with a starring role alongside Vanessa Hudgens in film High School Musical (Disney Channel). Its soundtrack was one of the US’ bestselling albums of the year, with RIAA certifying it quadruple platinum. Five of Efron’s songs were on the Billboard Hot 100 (2006-2002-2011), simultaneously. One of those, “Breaking Free” was the fastest climber in Billboard Hot 100’s history (from 86 to 4 inside a week).
Efron starred in two more sequels, High School Musical 2 (2007, Disney Channel) and the box office hit High School Musical 3: Senior Year (2008, salary: $3,000,000).
In 2010, he won the Nickelodeon Australian Kids’ Choice Awards (Cutest Couple with Hudgens) and the Bravo Otto Best TV Star Award.
Other major films of his include: Hairspray (2007; salary: $100,000), 17 Again (2009; salary: $1,000,000), Me and Orson Welles (2009), Charlie St. Cloud (2010), New Year’s Eve (2011), Liberal Arts (2012), The Paperboy (2012), The Lorax (2012; computer-animated blockbuster), The Lucky One (2012; Nicholas Sparks’ eponymous novel), At Any Price (2012), Parkland (2013), That Awkward Moment (2014), Neighbors (2014), We Are Your Friends (2015), Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016), Dirty Grandpa (2016), Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates (2016) and The Disaster Artist (2017).
For TV, he has also appeared in CSI: Miami (2005), The Replacements (2006; voice-acting), Heist (2006), The Suite Life of Zack & Cody (2006), NCIS (2006), Robot Chicken (2008-2014; various voice roles) and Entourage (2009).
Efron is starring alongside Dwayne Johnson, Alexandra Daddario and Priyanka Chopra in the film Baywatch, which is set to make a big splash on the silver screen on May 25, 2017.
The Greatest Showman (December 2017) is another of his upcoming films.
