Daniel Kaluuya net worth

By Suren Prasad

British writer/actor Daniel Kaluuya has a reported net worth of $1 million.

Born to Ugandan immigrants in London on May 8, 1989, Daniel Kaluuya’s interest in writing led to him penning his first play (on the lines of the sitcom Kenan & Kel), as a nine-year-old. The play was performed at Hampstead Theatre and even won a competition. Kaluuya soon got into improv (improvisational theatre) and consequently began acting. Some of his early ventures were the BBC play Shoot the Messenger (2006), and the TV series The Whistleblowers (2007) and Comedy: Shuffle (2007).

Never making it to university, Kaluuya joined the British teen drama Skins (2007-2009) at the age of 17, where he was also a staff writer (first two series) and head writer (two episodes). Skins’ phenomenal success in Britain led to Kaluuya obtaining a role in the play Oxford Street (2008), which was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award. He soon began guest-starring in other TV series, such as Delta Forever (2008), Silent Witness (2008), the Doctor Who special episode “Planet of the Dead” (2009) and Lewis (2009).

Kaluuya also lent voice to BBC Radio 4’s sitcom Sneakiepeeks (2009-2010).

In 2009, he was given regular roles in ITV’s sitcom FM and BBC’s dark comedy Psychoville. By the end of the year, Screen International Magazine touted Kaluuya as a UK Star of Tomorrow.

Kaluuya then starred in the play Sucker Punch (2010), staged at the Royal Court Theatre, London. Sucker Punch and Kaluuya both garnered plaudits, with Kaluuya winning the Critics’ Circle Theatre Award and Evening Standard Award for Outstanding Newcomer.

He was again given a leading role in the short film Baby (2010), which went on to win Best Short Film at the British Independent Film Awards and Edinburgh International Film Festival.

More lead roles followed, with the movie Chatroom (2010), Rowan Atkinson’s Johnny English Reborn (2011), and BBC Three’s supernatural series The Fades (2011).

Kaluuya also starred in an episode of Black Mirror (2011, anthology series), and played significant roles in the films Kick-Ass 2 (2013) and Sicario (2015).

His claim to fame came with a starring role in the horror movie Get Out (2017), which went on to rake in $252 million on a budget of $4.5 million. Kaluuya was nominated for Best Actor and Best Duo at the MTV Movie & TV Awards, and won the MTV Movie & TV Awards for Next Generation. (GQ, Muzul & Taddlr)

He has also appeared in the films Cass (2008), Random (2011, TV film), Beginning (2012, short film), Welcome to the Punch (2013) and Jonah (2013, short film), and the TV series That Mitchell and Webb Look (2008-2009), The Philanthropist (2009), Ten Minute Tales (2009), Harry and Paul (2010-2012), Coming Up (2011), Black Mirror (2011) and Babylon (2014).

Other stage appearances include Trelawny of the Wells (2013) and Blue/Orange (2016).

Kaluuya is set to lend voice to the upcoming series Watership Down (2017), besides starring in Marvel Studios’ film Black Panther (2018) and Steve McQueen’s heist film Widows (2018).
