Made famous by his role as Joffrey Baratheon in the award-winning TV series Game of Thrones, Jack Gleeson is reported to have a net worth of over £5.5 million.
Irish actor Jack Gleeson was born on May 20, 1992 in Cork. He began taking drama classes from a young age.
Gleeson’s tryst with acting began when he was seven years old with the Independent Theatre Workshop. Making minor appearances in movies such as Reign of Fire (2002), Moving Day (2002), Fishtale (2003), Tom Waits Made Me Cry (2004), Batman Begins (2005), Shrooms (2007) and A Shine of Rainbows (2009), he then starred in All Good Children (2010)—a performance which prompted Variety magazine to label Gleeson “the pic’s big discovery”.
He also acted in four episodes of the Irish comedy series Killinaskully (2006-2008).
How did Gleeson’s acting effort earn him millions?
Starring in HBO’s Game of Thrones (2011-present), based on the series of books A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin, Gleeson plays the role of the bullying and capricious prince Joffrey Baratheon, explaining that the biggest influence on his performance was Joaquin Phoenix’s role as Commodus in the epic movie Gladiator. He won the IGN People’s Choice Award for Best TV Villain in 2012. In 2013, he was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Performance by a Young Actor in a TV Series, and was also nominated with the entire cast for the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series (2011 and 2013).
In 2014, Gleeson announced that once his role in Game of Thrones was over he would be retiring from acting.
Gleeson established the Dublin-based Collapsing Horse Theatre Company and is its artistic director.
