This optimistic note is tempered with a certain caution, however. ‘In what is likely to be a lower return environment in the future,’ he explains, ‘clients may increase their focus on service levels, over and above investment returns.’

Hutton-Mills was starting out at Rothschild as the financial crisis hit, and he attributes his reassuring approach ‘to the ethos here that stems from the firm’s family involvement, and which means that we are genuinely focused on our clients’ long-term needs and objective at all times.’
