When Princess Haya of Jordan and her solicitor Fiona Shackleton went up against Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum in the High Court recently, Charles Geekie was the silk they turned to. Geekie, a QC since 2006, is known for his excellence in children matters.

He notes that his type of work, in particular, seems destined to be affected by the coronavirus crisis. ‘Where we will be with that in time to come is anybody’s guess,’ he says.

Everyone is having to adapt and the use of video conference technology could continue in the long term. ‘But,’ Geekie says, ‘I don’t think it will ever be a substitute for the formality and the directness of an actual court hearing.’
